Antartica

Antartica is the coldest and most desolate region on earth. The continent of Antartica is buried beneath a layer of ice and snow about 1 mile(1.6km) thick.

  • Antartica is the world's Windiest cotinent.The winds average 44 miles per hour(71 kph) and gust as high as 120 miles per hour(193 kph).
  • The lowest temperature on earth, - 129 deg Fahrenheit(-89 deg C), was recorded at vostok station, antartica on july 21, 1983.
  • As its thickest point, the ice over the Antartica is nearly 3 miles(4.8 km) deep ten times as high as the sears Towers in chicago,the tallest building in the United States.
